What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and How Does it Work?
Over the last 30 years, CSA has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" in their farm harvest to the public. Interested consumers purchase a share, and in return receive box/bag/basket of season produce each week throughout the growing season.
CSA is a great way to get ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits, for your family. It's also a great way to expose yourself and family to new vegetables and new ways of cooking. You may also find that your kids will favor the food received from "THEIR" farm - even veggies they've never been known to eat. Lastly, it allows you to develop a relationship with the farmer who grows your food and learn more about how food is grown.
Sign-Up Is Easy!
You can sign-up at any time during the year and start receiving your share of Desert Roots Farm produce this week.
First...choose from a whole share or a half share. The whole share ($25/week) is intended to be an approximate quantity that would be suitable for a family of 4 with a mixed diet. Vegetarian/Vegan diets would require more. The half share ($20/week) provides all the same great variety as the whole share, but the quantities of each item are reduced to meet the weekly needs of an individual or couple.
Next...decide whether you'd like your weekly CSA share delivered to your office or door-step, or if you'd prefer to pick-up at one of our 15+ valley-wide pick-up locations.
